The Power of Palo Santo

Palo Santo is a sacred wood that comes from the magical Palo Santo tree, native to the coast of South America. Its name literally means holy wood, and it is just that. When it is burned, the smoke is believed to have both medicinal and therapeutic healing power. Traditionally, it is burned by Incas, indigenous people of the Andes, Shamans and medicine people for spiritual purifying, energy cleansing and healing.

Palo Santo has the divine ability to dramatically change your life. Having experienced my very first encounter with Palo Santo just two weeks ago, I am in love. The aroma is absolutely incredible. It is extremely fresh smelling with hints of pine, mint and citrus, proving to be one of the most fragrant woods, I have ever smelled and known in the world. Rich in brain-oxygenating terpenes such as limonene and a-terpineol, Palo Santo has an uplifting and positive effect. Its uplifting scent helps to raise your vibration to bring a deeper connection to the Earth and your divine source.

One of the most admirable qualities of palo santo wood is its inherent ability to purify all that it comes in contact with on an energetic level. Wherever its smoke goes, it cleanses and purifies, so it can be used to purify a room, an entire home and especially people. While some smudging herbs are used solely to cleanse a space from negative energy and others are then used to attract positive energy afterward, palo santo is rare in that it does both at the same time. It both purifies and attracts positive energy. Palo santo’s spirit is often generous with its healing powers as its smoke enters the energy field of those it reaches to clear negative thoughts and misfortune.

For physical healing, Palo Santo benefits include relieving symptoms of common colds, stress, headaches, anxiety, inflammation, emotional trauma and more. It is also wonderful for setting and sealing in your intentions with. For physical healing, Use the oil to provide pain relief for arthritis and joint pain with its anti-inflammatory properties. As a rich supply of antioxidants and phytochemicals , concentrated palo santo oil is effective for fighting free radical damage, relieving stomach aches, fighting stress, reducing pains due to arthritis and healing many other conditions. Attention has been garnered to it being a natural cancer treatment for inflammatory diseases.

So far, all I have experimented with are the sticks. The best way to burn your sticks, are to use a match or lighter to ignite. Then hold it at a 45 degree angle pointing the tip down towards the flame. Allow the stick to burn for 30 seconds to a minute and then blow it out. From there you can either place the stick in an incense burner and leave to smolder, or you can use it for smudging. If left to rest the stick will smolder and release smoke for approx 5 mins. If used for smudging, or you are waiving it around a space, it will smolder for longer.
